Fourteen years later, they retired to Nashville, IN where Mary was variously employed by a Christmas shop, an art gallery, and by the Golf Club of Brown County. Mary also served as the City Clerk of Nashville. Marys husband, Herchel preceded her in death in 1981. In 1993, Mary moved to Topeka, KS, where she continued working in small part-time positions and served for a number of years as a volunteer at the State Library. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Striebel Brown (Jeremy Miller) and Jan Striebel Mallernee, grandchildren; Kirk Hamilton Brown, Chad Redmond Brown, Rachel Christine Woodward, David Baruch Mallernee.
