Fred W. Cook in WWII
My maternal grandfather, Fred William "Bud" Cook in the U.S. Army. He was the son of Lena Ethel (Tribbey) and Charles Cook in Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio. This picture was taken while Fred was in the U.S. Army during World War II in the early to mid 1940's. An ancestry website says that he enlisted in Cincinnati in 1942 but we saw other information that he enlisted in 1942 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. A family member's obituary says he was stationed in Camp Maxey (near Paris, Texas). He was an automobile serviceman in Europe. He was in Cannon Company 393rd Infantry Regiment 99th Division (Checkerboard Division). Fred had a French girlfriend in France during the war. He came home about January 1946.
Fred married Helen J. (Sositko) Henry Cook after the war. Helen built airplane parts in Ohio during the war.
Fred received three bronze star medals from the Army.
Date & Place: at Camp Maxey in Paris, Texas United States
