Harley W. Sheeks Sr., Veteran of WW I
Harley W. Sheeks Sr., was the son of Maude Sheeks, the daughter of Isom Sheeks & Judith Ann (Spencer). He fought in WW I and afterwards he drove a taxi driver in Bedford for 36 years before he retired. In 1953, he married a Mrs. Dorothy (- - - -) Knight, and they had a son whom they also named Harley W. Sheeks. Dorothy's children from her previous marriage were cited in her obituary when she died 20 Sep 1977: Janet Carlson of Westminster, California & Junior Gardner also of California. Harley Jr. married a Patricia Hunt, and they had a son whom they named Harley Wilbur Sheeks who died in infancy (16 Dec 1976-abt 19 April 1977). Harley Sr., who died 29 Aug 1981, & Harley III are buried at the Sheeks Cemetery in Mitchell, Indiana. Harley Sr.'s mother Maude Sheeks, married George Washington Cooper, a son of John Cooper & Margaret (Jones)& a veteran of WW II, on 17 Feb 1919. They lived on his farm west of Orleans, Orange Co, Indiana. He had first married a Florence Johnson in 1912, but she died in 1915. Their daughter, Catherine aka Kathryn Cooper, born between 1912 & 1915, married Charles McFarland.
