Joseph Lee Lanza Sr. WWI
Born in Compofelice, Sicily in January 25, 1892 as Giuseppi Lanza. He came to America through Ellis Island at the age of 12 in 1905 by himself and joined some family in Pittsburgh, PA. He joined the Army and served at Fort Dix, New Jersey changing his name to Joseph and adding a middle name, Lee, that the Army said he had to have. He married a Swedish girl from the Pittsburgh area in 1917, Edith Caroline Gustafson. They had 5 children; Joseph Jr., (died in infancy), Louis, Charles, Lena and Salvatore, (Samuel). They divorced before 1930 and he married again to a widow, Minnie Manna.
He died on Memorial Day, 1961 in Crile Veteran's Hospital, near Cleveland, OH. He is buried in the veterans section of Oakwood Cemetery, Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio.

Joseph Louis Lanza, also known as Joseph Lee Lanza - records differ, was born to Luigi Lanza (1848 - 1920) and Antonina Guercio (1859 - 1926), both of whom were born in Sicily. He had two brothers and three sisters, Louis J. (1879 - 1954), Salvatore, Josephine, Michelina, and Clementina Lanza. Joseph Lee Lanza Sr. came to America by himself in 1905 at the age of 12. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1918 and served at Fort Dix, New Jersey, changing his name to Joseph and adding a middle name, Lee, because the Army said he had to have a middle name. Joseph Lanza married Edith Caroline Gustafson (1899 - 1977), a Swedish girl from the Pittsburgh area, in 1918. They had 5 children; Joseph Jr., (died in infancy), Louis, Charles, Lena and Salvatore "Samuel" Lanza. They divorced in 1929 and he married a second time in 1932, this time to a widow, Minnie Mannan (1895 - 1983), Joseph died on Memorial Day, 1961 in Crile Veteran's Hospital, near Cleveland, OH. He is buried in the veteran's section of Oakwood Cemetery, Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio.
