Marian Anderson 1940
Marian Anderson, the most celebrated singer of the 20th century. Marian Anderson was an African-American contralto. When the DAR refused permission for her to sing at Constitution Hall in 1939, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt resigned from the organization.
