Native Dress
This photo came from a suitcase belonging to my Grandfather, Lawrence Russell Nash. I inherited it after he died. We did not know these photo's existed. The album contains Nash/Costin photo's but no names. The obvious Scottish/Irish dress caught my attention as I have been trying to trace my roots to one or both of these countries.

I am looking for information on the woman and/or the native dress she is wearing. Any help on identifing her or the country from whence she came would be greatly appreciated.

The dress is a Scottish kilted skirt with sash; why she is wearing a man's sporran (purse) I don't know. This particular sporran is the type a piper would wear with the horse hair trim.
Nice picture. Make sure to hang on to it. Someone may come up with an answer to who it is. Kathy

I have been doing genealogy for ove r 30 years. Names include but are not limited to: Clark, Tilling, Arledge, Shippy, McLeish, Horton, Moffitt, Dixon, Montross (Montrose). I just acquired the majority of heritage photos from my folks' home inc. Daddy's military photos; his scrapbook from the Isle of Capri and Naples where he was stationed during WWII.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
