This picture entitled "Pretty Little Girl" appeared in THE ATLANTA CONSTITUTION on the society page. The newspaper had her parents as Mr. and Mrs. John H. Bennett. At first I thought the newspaper had misprinted his middle initial, and that little Lee was the youngest daughter, previously unknown to me, of John Lee Bennett aka Lee Wm Bennett, and his wife Zella Bishop, who at that time, were living temporarily with her mother, Mary Belle (Savage) Bishop McKinnon Crawford, in Atlanta. I had known Lee and Zella's children only as Ralph, Russell, and Viola.
However, since putting this picture on AncientFaces.com, and then hearing from Karia (aka Kitty) Sloan Calhoun, we now have two other possible sets of parents. Karia wrote: "I am looking for a John H. Bennett who married a Mamie McEnham. Could this be their dau? Their son Alfred Lee Bennett, b. 1910 Rome, GA married my grandmother Alma Glover Sloan in B'ham AL in 1946. They later moved to Sikeston, MO area." She next wrote that Alfred had sisters who lived in Birmingham, AL, but she didn't know their names.
Afterwards Kitty Calhoun ([contact link])found and sent me a link to the 14 Jan 1920 Georgia, Fulton Co., Atlanta City Census, Sheet 15 B (P. 239, which included a James, 44, automobile company manager, and Maybelle Bennett, 33, who had a son Russell, 14, and a daughter Lee, 9, all born in GA to parents both born in GA.
With the similarity in names, I am wondering if Lee and James Bennett were brothers.
I want to thank Karla for her input and efforts.
Does anyone know the photographed little Lee's parents for sure and anymore about her?
