Fron the Official Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War of the Rebellion:
I located a David W. Courtney...He is listed in F Company as a Private, age 18, entered 05 Jun 1861, 3 yr Service, Transferred to Co. A 01 Jan 1864, veteran. In Co. A he is listed as a Sgt.. He was appointed Cpl. 01 Jan 1864, Appt. Sgt. on 19 Oct 1864. Promoted to Com. Sgt and transferred to Field and Staff 20 Feb 1865. David Mustered out w/ regiment on 05 Dec 1865. I am not sure if this is the same person but I can tell you this is the only Courtney listed in this reference under the name of Courtney in the 13th Regiment OVI
William Courtney served in the 13th Ohio Cavalry. David W. Courtney served in the 13th Ohio Infantry. David W. Courtney was born in Pa., also married an Anna (about 1883), and is buried in Yamhill County, Oregon (death date unknown).
