My great grandmother Annie Shrive was a teacher at the Chicago Normal School. Julia Holden and Maggie Stokes were related to her.

Julia & James Stokes: Thought to be a picture taken about the time of their marriage, 1877. Julia Ann Bridges married James Wilbur Stokes Aug. 05, 1877.
James Wilbur Stokes was a Texas Ranger when he was 16 years old, while in the Rangers it is indicated that he wrote a song, titled Texas Ranger, it was written in 1873. It is sung now by Michael Martin Murphy. In Sept. of 1876 he joined the U.S. Army under the name James McMahon. {Believed to be because of his age} He signed up for the 7th Calvary after the Little Bighorn and spent the winter of 1876 with the Army looking for Sitting Bull. In March of 1878 he was given a medical discharge.

feeding his chickens...Upton Shefford Peck was born on January 3, 1920, in Iowa, the only child of Daniel and Alice Maud. He married Goldie Lillian Barrett on May 22, 1940, in Decorah, Iowa. They had seven children during their marriage. He died on May 24, 1989, at the age of 69.

John Murray lived at Seven Mile Creek when he first moved to Wisconsin {about 1855-6} then later he moved to Baraboo where from 1860 to 1891 he had a feed store. In 1891 him and his wife Ann moved to Chicago to be closer to his daughter Mary Ann Shrive.
