She later married Jack L Codding in 1955 in Manatee, Florida, USA. Barbara was mother to four daughters, Patricia R., Karen Lystein, Kathleen Metcalf, and Constant Pruitt as well as two sons, James M. and Robert L.

    The Tampa Tribune (Tampa, Florida) Saturday, February 25, 1989 BARBARA S. CODDING, 64, of Sarasota, died Friday. She was born in Washington, D.C., and moved to this area 30 years ago from Idaho. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. She is survived by her husband, Jack L.; her mother, Adele L. Smith of Gaithersburg, Md.; four daughters, Patricia R. of Bradenton, Karen Lystein of Sarasota, Kathleen Metcalf of Tampa and Constant Pruitt of Valrico; two sons, James M. and Robert L., both of Fort Myers; a sister, Winifred Welsh of Bethesda, Md.; and seven grandchildren. National Cremation Society, Sarasota Chapter.

Edgar Hoover, at the age of 29, was appointed the sixth director of the Bureau of Investigation by Calvin Coolidge (which later became the Federal Bureau of Investigation). The Bureau had approximately 650 employees, including 441 Special Agents. A former employee of the Justice Department, Hoover accepted his new position on the proviso that the bureau was to be completely divorced from politics and that the director report only to the attorney general.
