Cecil Wall was born in or around Sparta, Missouri on March 26, 1897. He didn't have a middle name, because they couldn't find one that they felt would go with "Cecil." He died in a nursing home in Canon City, Fremont County, Colorado on October 14, 1977 at the age of 80. He married Josephine (Cantril) Wall on June 3, 1931 in Saguache, Colorado. They had met in Salida, Chaffee County, Colorado & lived there for many years. They also lived in La Mesa, California & Stony Ford, California at one time. They had 3 children. George Eugene born in 1935, Cecil LeRoy born in 1943 & Susan Kay born in 1949 (my mom). He was an amazing grandpa. He died when I was in the 3rd grade, but I have many memories of him. I was allergic to eggs when I was little (among other things). But I LOVED them!! He babysat me often & one morning I wanted an egg, so he fried me one. Then I wanted another & another & so on. LOL I don't know how many I had that day, but it was enough. I woke up the next morning & mom said you couldn't even see my eyes my face was so swollen. He used to take care of other people's yards in his later years & he had an old light blue pick up. I used to ride around to these places with him & loved it! I was only 3-4 & I would either sit or stand up in the front seat (you didn't used to get in trouble for that) & when we would drive by the grade school, he would say "there's my girls' school." I was so excited about going to school one day....soooo naive. lol He used to chew tobacco & would sit at the kitchen table at their house at 1147 F. Street in Salida, CO (the house is still standing as of today May 22, 2020 but barely. It has been condemned for years...if I had the money I would buy the whole lot, tear it down & build a house just like how it used to look) & he would play solitaire. He had a "spit can" that sat next to him on the floor. My grandma would get so mad at him, because I had started spitting in it too! LOL He was the best grandpa that I ever could have asked for. I miss him every day. He had been in the nursing home for awhile in Canon City, CO & we would go visit him often. He was able to talk & everything, but after awhile, he had developed a brain tumor. The doctor & my grandma decided that it was best that nobody told him. Well some "nurse" or "orderly" took it upon himself to tell him one day, because he thought he should know. My grandpa stopped talking on that day. :( My mom found out she was pregnant with my youngest sister in October 1977 & wasn't sure if she should tell him or not, because she didn't want to upset him if he wouldn't be around. But she decided to tell him & he smiled. Not too long after that, at the end of one of her visits with him, she told him that she loved him. He told her that he loved her. He hadn't spoken in a long time & mom said she should have known then. He died not too long after that. Also "back in the day" when he was young & living in Missouri, he was what was known as a "Hobo" & would hop trains. He also made "moonshine.":) I also heard that he was ornery & one time when he was little, they couldn't find him. He was sitting up on a hill watching his family look everywhere for him. LOL He had been in the Navy during WW I. At some point after that, he had broken his leg. The doctor had "set" it while he was in Missouri. His family had moved to Salida, CO by then, I believe or was in the process of doing so. The doctor told him that he shouldn't go at that time because any "jostling" could mess up his leg more. Well he decided to go anyway & yep it messed it up more. He had a limp for the rest of his life. I have more information about his work & all, but will have to look for it now.
