On February 5, 1891 he married Catherine Lucy Lumsden (1863-1944) in Franklin, Tasmania. They had children together Cyril Andrew (1891-1973) and Myrtle Evelyn (1895-1974). The couple later separated. He then married Helen Turan Riseley (1870-1924) on September 21, 1896 in Zeehan, Tasmania, Australia. They had children Johann Herbert (born 1897), Grace Emily (born 1900), and Jack Hohne. His wife passed away in 1924, ending their marriage. Frederick married one more time in 1926, to Ethel Christina Lucas and they lived in St Kilda Central, Balaclava, Victoria, Australia.
