Philip David Charles Collins, better known as simply Phil Collins, was born and brought up in West London and began his entertainment career early. He began playing drums at the age of 5, and completed drama school training as a young child. His first major acting role was at age 13 as the Artful Dodger in "Oliver!' in the West End of London.
By 1970, Phil was focusing on his music and joined the group Genesis as the drummer. He became the lead singer of the band in 1975.
By the 1980s, he had begun a solo career, releasing albums such as the popular Face Value (1981), Hello, I Must Be Going (1982), No Jacket Required (1985) and But Seriously (1989). And as of 2022, and nearly 4 decades later, he is still going strong.
Phil has been married 3 times and has 5 children according to Philip David Charles Collins: Family Tree & Friends. He published his autobiography, Not Dead Yet, in 2016, which chronicled his marriages.
Phil developed hearing loss in 2000 and although doctors said that "nothing could be done", by 2002 he had recovered his hearing. The temporary loss was caused by a viral infection and treatment resolved the problem. He has also suffered from type 2 diabetes, dislocated vertebrae, and alcoholism.
