Robert Andrew Erik Snygg was born on December 28th, 1892 in Oja, Sweden, to Anders Viktor Svensson Snygg (1863 - 1949) and Emma Kristina Johansdotter (1867 - 1958). Both of his parents were born in Sweden. Robert had seven siblings: Albert, Frans, Ernst, Oskar, Karl Johan who died as an infant, another Karl John born three years later, and Asta. He also had one half-brother, Bror Gustav Bernhard Snygg.
In 1908, Robert arrived in the United States, emigrating from Sweden at 16 years old. He lived the rest of his life in the state of Illinois.
Robert A. E. Snygg married Hulda S. Snygg (1900 - 1979) on June 16th, 1920 in Rockford, Illinois. They had three children: Robert Laverne, Margaret Evelyn, and Richard Eugene.
Robert died at the age of 80 in Rockford, Illinois and he is buried in Scandinavian Cemetery in Rockford.
