Truman V Hale of Springfield, Greene County, MO was born on January 26, 1922, and died at age 66 years old on October 23, 1988.
Truman P Hale of Lampasas, Lampasas County, TX was born on December 16, 1914, and died at age 87 years old on July 14, 2002.
He was my father and a great man. He was the youngest child of Joseph Thomas and Beulah Lenora Hail. He had an old brother, Ray Vernon Hail and an older sister, Saba (Hail) Hughes. They lived in and around Lampasas, San Saba and Kempner Tx. His father was a blacksmith and a farmer and his mother a homemaker. Their method of travel was a covered wagon in the early days. Although I do remember my Daddy talking about his Model A car!
Daddy served in World War ll in the US Army in England, North Africa, Italy and France. He served in the 36th Division, also known as the Texas Division. He participated in the liberation of Rime and was stationed in Paris when the Germans surrendered. He spoke of all that he saw while in Europe and Africa. Years later, when an exhibition of items from Pompeii was in Dallas, he spoke of seizing the originals while visiting Pompeii!
After the war, he returned hone to Lampasas and worked as a bus driver for Lampasas ISD and as a mechanic at a local Ford dealership.
While driving a school bus to an activity, he met a new school teacher that his nephew, Ray Hail, Junior, had told his about and finally introduced him to, Dorothy Lancaster. Two months later they married on November 22, 1949.
They had 3 children, Virginia Ann Hale (October 22, 1950), Truman Wayne Hale (November 2, 1953), and Dorothy Jean Hale (me, November 19, 1959).
Daddy continued to work in and around Lampasas as an electrician and later he learned to install air conditioning and heating units in new homes. He died on Nuly 14, 2002. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, his son and daughter in law, Renee, and his precious grandchildren, Corey Wayne Hale, Graham Todd Hale and Casey Renee Hale. Daddy was a true family man and loved to be surrounded by his precious family!
