The Bendigo Independent. 1st August 1900. Death of Mr. Vernon Prankerd- The numerous residents of Bendigo and Mandurang will regret to hear of the death of Mr. Vernon Prankerd. It occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Jos. Tuck,of Cobram. The deceased who was 66 years old, arrived in the colony in 1845 being attracted by the goldfields. After many changes he eventually took to school teaching, which he followed for 20 years. In 1896 he was pensioned off by the department and took up 2000 acres of land in East Gippsland for grazing. Last year his health began to fail, and thinking a change would do him good, he came to Melbourne, and later to Cobram, where he seemed to be improving. Apparently it was only temporary, as he gradually sank and died quietly on Monday last from General break up of the system. He was very much respected both in private and business life. He leaves a widow and nine children, the youngest being 12 years of age. Two of the eldest sons are married and engaged in the railway department . .
