William Arthur Rosemeyer was born on April 14, 1911 in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, USA to parents Arthur Thomas Rosemeyer (1883-1960) and Bessie L Beatty (1885-1970). He was married to Margaret Rosemeyer and they had a son together Robert Rosemeyer. The family lived in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, USA where William worked as the manager of a car dealership. William registered for the draft on October 16, 1940, when he was 29 years old. At the time, he was working for Gibson Co. On May 12, 1942, Rosemeyer then enlisted in the United States Army in Indianapolis, Indiana. He joined the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers category as a Private in the Selectees (enlisted men) rank. Rosemeyer was honorably discharged from the Army on January 30, 1946, after almost four years of service. He returned home to Indianapolis to be with his family and resume his civilian life.
