You've likely heard that yesterday we lost another great actor. Considered by many as the last film star of the 'Golden Age of Hollywood', Angela Lansbury (1925 - 2022) died in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles, California.

The daughter of an Irish actress and a successful English timber merchant who had ancestral ties to politics, Angela made her own way in show business for nearly 75 years. On Broadway, film, and television, she created an indelible impression on audiences with her over 100 roles. As a person, dozens of co-workers praised her kindness and grace. Harvey Fierstein tweeted: "Angela Lansbury - She, my darlings, was EVERYTHING!"

She was truly one of a kind and will be missed. Fortunately, we have her work on film to comfort us, and her biography to remember her by.

I convinced her to do Anna in The King and I. Bith Harold Prince and Peter Shaw were grateful. Got house seats and she wouldn't leave afterwards until she got my opinion!

Because of billing she refused to do the King and I with Yul Brynner.

I was there when she was complaining about billing! Wanted her name first. So she did it with Michael Kermoyan and gave me how seats. Of course every other actress was thrilled to work with Yul Brynner. I gave Kermoyan a beautiful tribute on Ancientfaces.

Moyna Mcgill was Angela's gorgeous Irish mother. Moyna was in The Boyfriend with Julie Andrews and Ann Wakefield.

I saw The Boyfriend in 1956 in New York and decided I wanted to be a character actress (like Ann Wakefield) in musicals. So my mother bought me albums and encouraged my love of musicals. I met Julie Andrews in the theatre in New York and became friends with Ann Wakefield 50 years later.
