Elaine Marguerite (Kroetch) Gillette of Lake Stevens County, Snohomish United States was born on May 19, 1924 in Hoquiam, Grays Harbor County, WA to Dorothy Elaine (Ferguson) Kroetch and Hollis Joseph Kroetch. She had siblings Frank Kroetch, Hollis Frederick Kroetch, and Norma (Kroetch) Erickson. She married Granville Gillett on April 26, 1943, and they were married until Elaine's death on January 29, 2007. Elaine Gillette had children Sharron Marguerite (Gillett) Rapp, Susan Lowman, and Sandra Hasegawa Ingalls.

  • Introduction

    Elaine Marguerite Kroetch was adopted by the Bell family when her mother died (she was age 8). Since her younger sister was also adopted (by the Dahlquist family) and her brothers Fred (who lived with his Aunt Wea) and Frank (who lived for a time with his Aunt Thelma) were sent to live with family, even at the young age of 8 Elaine insisted that she and her siblings see each other often. And they did. They always told stories of the mischief they got into as kids. As a result, they were close all of their lives and so were their children ("the cousins"). Although only Frank and Elaine lived in Washington state as adults (Norma lived in San Diego and Fred lived in Dayton Ohio), they spoke on the phone often and visited often. Fred died first (lung cancer), then Frank (cardiac arrest), then Norma, then Elaine. Although her mother's family didn't like our grandfather and therefore obtained an order from a (family friend) judge to keep him from the children, they did see my grandfather as adults. My dad (Frank) and Fred saw him often. The girls still held a grudge against him.

Dorothy's father, George Washington Ferguson, was born in Wayne, West Virginia. Hollis' mother, Hellen Isabell Steeples, was born in Zurich, Kansas. Hollis' father, John Baptist Henry Kroetch, was born in Formosa, Bruce, Ontario, Canada.

Elaine was my great aunt. She was married to my grandmother's brother, Granville Gillett. She was a wonderful woman. I have great memories of visiting them in Seattle in the early 60's and 70's

Hi Danny!

Aunt Elaine was my biological aunt and Uncle Grany was my uncle. I lived in Seattle in the 60's and then in northern Washington in the 70s so we may have met at one point but I don't remember. Grandma and Grandpa Gillett (Uncle Grany's parents) were often at holidays in the 60's so I remember them well - including their "bee eating dog". You're right - Aunt Elaine was my father's eldest sister and we all miss her very much. What a thrill to see you here! :)

My name is Janet Nelson. I am the great granddaughter of Joseph J. Kroetch and Helena Claire Crane. Joseph J. is son of Angeline Chartrand and Joseph J. Kroetch. I have done a little genealogy on the Kroetches, and have a book written by a cousin in Washington about the Kroetches in Bavaria, and their imigration to the US and Canada.
