She had siblings Emily Maud Boykett Freeman, Annie Mason (Boykett) Calder, Robert Maurice Boykett, Frank King Boykett, Charles Bolton Boykett, and Thomas Hebbert Boykett. Ada Boykett died at age 1 year old in 1863.

In 1862, in the year that Ada Ellen Boykett was born, British citizen Anna Leonowens, a widow, accepted a job in Siam (now Thailand) to teach the children and wives of the King of Siam - he had 39 wives and concubines and 82 children. Taking her son with her and sending her daughter to England for schooling, she taught in Siam for 6 years - until the King died.

In 1863, in the year of Ada Ellen Boykett's passing, on January 1st, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The Proclamation made the abolition of slavery in the Confederate states an official war goal. It also immediately freed 50,000 slaves, with the rest freed as Union armies advanced into Confederate states. The Proclamation wasn't a Congressional law - it was an Executive Order.
