Funeral Arrangements for Soldier Announced
Funeral arrangements have been announced for south suburban native Adam Thomas, 21, a soldier killed in Afghanistan on Aug. 31.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lawn Funeral Home, 7909 State Road, Bur-bank. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Thomas was one of two Army snipers killed during an intense 90 minute gun battle near the Pakistani border. He joined the Army in August 2001 and was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum. He had served in Afghanistan in 2002 and returned after his orders came in two months ago.
Mr. Thomas lived in the south suburbs until he was 15 years old. He attended Stagg High School in Palos Hills before he moved to La Plata, Mo. in 1997. He graduated from La Plata High School in 2000 where he was an all-star baseball player.
Survivors include his mother, Ellen DeGolyer Thomas of Burbank, his father and step-mother, Jeff Thomas and Cindy Thomas of Palos Hills; a brother; two sisters; a half brother; a stepbrother; a step sister; his maternal grandmother and his paternal grandparents.
