Poison found in exhumed body
Columbus, Mississippi (AP) - Evidence of poison was found in tests conducted on the exhumed remains of a Columbus man who died almost two years ago and an investigation is underway, Police Chief Pete Bowen said Thursday. "There was a presence of a chemical there - possibly a lethal does in the body," Bowen said of preliminary testing done on the remains of Alfred Wright by a private, out-of-state lab.
Wright was 68 when he died September 24, 1990. His body was exhumed April 13 at his family's request. A family member had declined to say why the family sought the examination. There was no investigation following Wright's death because the man had been pronounced dead of an apparent heart attack at Golden Triangle Regional Medical Center.
Hospital officials said Wright died the same day he was brought to the hospital. Brown declined to identify the chemical found, saying the information could hamper an investigation.
