She had siblings Alexander Frederick Howell and Douglas Frank Howell. She married Adrian Oliver Vial in 1928, and died at age 72 years old on April 26, 1975 in Canterbury, City of Boroondara County, VIC. Alfreda Vial was buried at Crematorium in Springvale, City of Greater Dandenong County.

Called the "Tournament East–West football game" at the time, the Michigan Wolverines (East) played the Stanford Indians (West) - the Wolverines won 49 - 0.
