State Highway Employee Dies of Injuries

MONROE - A 38-year old employee of the State Department of Highways died in Frank Francis Hospital here Monday night as a result of head injuries received while working last Wednesday. According to his family, Alton Rachell of Coushatta, never regained consciousness from the time of the accident until his death.
Rachell was injured when he fell from a striping machine while painting the center line of State Highway 15 about 10 miles from West Monroe. Physicians said his head was injured in the fall to the pavement.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Woodward of Monroe officiating. Burial will be in the Hand Cemetery under the direction of Rocket-Nettles Funeral Home of Coushatta. He is survived by his widow, Lucille Rachell; two sons, David and Ricky; three daughters, Brenda, Kathy and Debbie; two brothers, Alvin Rachell of Monroe and Rayford Rachell of Fort Worth, Texas.
