Andrew Carter "Corky" Byrd, 51, of Columbia, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at his mother's residence.
He was born in Fort Belvoir, Va., a son of Juanita Byrd Haygood and the late Lt. Col. Herman E. Byrd.
He was a licensed contractor, carpenter and avid gardener. He graduated from Sumter High School and attended Midlands Technical College. Corky was a loving and devoted son, brother and uncle.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Pamela Jacob and her husband, Peter, of Sumter; two brothers, Herman G. Byrd and his wife, Sandra, of Tyler, Texas, and Lanny Byrd and his wife, Paula, of Huntsville, Ala.; a niece; six nephews; and a great nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Bullock Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Cole Byrd, Sam Davis, Chris Hall, Joshua Jacob, Steve Tate and Ed Ward.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the family residence.
