Annunziata Inserra Nigro was born in 1890 to Giuseppe Nigro and Sebastiana (Battaglia) Nigro, and had siblings Natalizia Garrotto, Louisa Garrotto, Frank Nigro, Carmela Troia, Nicola Nigro, Venera Inserra Nigro, Grace Tribulato, Rose Nigro, and Antonio Nigro. Annunziata Nigro died at age 83 years old in 1973.

In 1890, in the year that Annunziata Inserra Nigro was born, on October 9th, in Satory, France, the first fixed-wing, steam powered aircraft flew. "Ader Éole" flew, uncontrolled, for about 160 ft. at a height of just under 8 inches off the ground.

In 1921, at the age of 31 years old, Annunziata was alive when the silent film The Sheik, directed by George Melford and starring Rudolph Valentino and Agnes Ayres (also featuring Adolphe Menjou) debuted on October 21st. Critics weren't enthusiastic but the public loved it - in the first few weeks 125,000 people had seen the movie - and it eventually exceeded $1 million in ticket sales. And Rudolph Valentino, an Italian American, became the heartthrob of a female generation.
