He married Emma Chambers, and they were married until Benjamin's death on October 13, 1950. Benjamin Chambers was buried at Box Hill Cemetery, 395 Middleborough Rd, in Box Hill, Whitehorse City County.

Over 60 women, children and older people died. Bret Harte - a writer and friend of Mark Twain - reported the news about the massacre to the papers in San Francisco.
