Did you know?
In 1919, in the year that Berline Turner was born, the "Black Sox Scandal" rocked baseball fans during the World Series. Eight players on the Chicago White Sox were accused of throwing the World Series, thus allowing the Cincinnati Reds to win, and making money off of the losses. All of the players were found not guilty by a jury but the fallout lasted for decades. The players were banned from baseball even though they were found innocent.
Did you know?
In 1922, at the age of just 3 years old, Berline was alive when on June 22, coal miners in Herrin Illinois, were on strike (coal miners had been on strike nationally since April 1). The striking miners were outraged at the strikebreakers (scabs) that the company had brought in and laid siege to the mine. Three union workers were killed when gunfire was exchanged. The next day, union miners killed 23 strikebreakers and mine guards. No one, on either side, ever faced jail time.

Automobile Evolution - 108th Anniversary of the Model T
On October 1st 1908, Henry Ford's first production Model T was completed in the Ford Piquette Avenue plant in Detroit Michigan, where they would eventually build around 15 million cars. While it wasn't the first car produced, it was the first car "made for the masses" making transportation easier than ever. Costing $500 by 1917, the average middle class family could finally afford a car and the race to building highways and infrastructure was on! The Model T (1908 - 1927), contrary to popular memory, was built by Henry Ford before the Model A (which was built from 1927 - 1931). But Ford wasn't the only automobile producer during the first half of the 20th century. This collection of photos shows various models and our love of cars throughout history.
