Bernice Oda (Neal) Wooldridge of Lamar, Barton County, MO was born on August 15, 1907 to Frank B. Neal and Dora Turman Neal. Bernice Wooldridge had siblings Joseph Neal and Gladys Neal Eskew. She was the parent of Keith Dale Wooldridge. She married Victor Charles Wooldridge. Bernice Wooldridge died at age 96 years old on January 9, 2004, and was buried on January 12, 2004.

In 1907, in the year that Bernice Wooldridge was born, the Monongah coal mining disaster occurred on December 6th, happening at the Fairmont Coal Company’s No. 6 and No. 8 mines.. Over 361 miners were killed. Because there was no breathing apparatus at the time to help rescuers, recovery efforts were greatly hampered. It is considered the worst mining disaster in American history and led to government oversight in mining practices.
