  • Introduction

My Grandmother, originally named Bridget, was born to Bernard O'Connor and Margaret Cox, Roscommon Ireland (Aughrim West). She immigrated to America May 3, 1898. She then changed her first name to Agnes because she did not want to be called Bridget in America (all maids were called Bridget) Her passage was aided by her brother Patrick and sister Mary, who had already arrived in the U. S. She settled in Kansas City, Mo, where she met and married George Washington Orwig. They had two children, Georgiana and Mary Leah. Georgiana passed away, age 5 or 6 from influenza.

I don't know who compiled the information of Agnes Bridget O'Connor, but it is not correct and I don't have the ability to correct it. Agnes only had 2 children with her husband George Washington Orwig. Their names were Mary Leah- born 1915, and Georgiana, born 1913 (approx). Georgiana died during the 1918 Influenza. The remaining child, Mary Leah (my Mother), went on to have 8 children- the names listed above, but errantly attributed to Agnes rather than her daughter, Mary Leah. The correction is the duty of this site monitors. I can not change it. Thank you, Nancy D Topper/Yancey (Granddaughter of Agnes O'Connor.
