He had siblings John Thomas Ebbels, Louis Ebbels, William Henry Ebbels, and Ethel Grace Ebbels. He married Florence Jane (Hore) Ebbels in 1905, and had children Ida Elizabeth Ebbels, Clarence Milton Ebbels, Ella Augusta Ebbels, Rupert Archibald Ebbels, and Horace Victor Ebbels. Charles Ebbels died at age 91 years old on July 27, 1971 in Geelong, Greater Geelong City County.

In 1879, in the year that Charles Archibald Ebbels was born, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.
