He had siblings Elizabeth Jane (Ebbels) Maxwell, Thomas Ebbels, Edward Philpot Ebbels, James Spring Ebbels, Frederick Ebbels, and Richard Alfred Ebbels. He married Elizabeth Gist Ebbels in 1874, and had children John Thomas Ebbels, William Henry Ebbels, Louis Ebbels, Charles Archibald Ebbels, and Ethel Grace Ebbels. William Ebbels died at age 66 years old in 1911 in Smythesdale, VIC Australia.
