Obituary
Charles Joseph Brown was born to Floyd Charles Brown and Maude (Duncan) Brown in Fresno, California on July 29, 1919. He attended school in Fresno where he met and married Amy Louise Hickman. He graduated from Fresno State College with a degree in Business. After college Charles served in World War II as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps. When Charles returned home from the war, Charles and Amy moved to Palo Alto while Charles got his MBA from Stanford University. They had two children: Charles Joseph Brown, Jr. and Judith Louise Brown. Charles was employed by Golden State Dairy; however, soon after WWII he was recalled to the Korean War. At the end of the Korean War he returned home as an Air Force Colonel. Charles and Amy rented a home from Amy's mother, Verda following the war and raised their family. The family lived in Fresno as Charles worked as an Assistant Personnel Manager for Fresno County. The family moved to Modesto so Charles could accept a promotion to Personnel Manager for Stanislaus County. Charles was active in the Modesto Lions Club, E. Clampus Vitis, and Native Sons of the Golden West. He was an avid bowler. He bowled on Lions Clubs teams often going to tournaments out of town. He and Amy enjoyed playing golf with their friends. They loved to vacation with their kids in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Monterey Bay area. Both Charles and Amy were bridge players. They enjoyed hosting parties for their friends. After Charles retired in 1977, Amy and Charles traveled to Hawaii and Mexico, as well as other locations in the USA. Amy died April 4, 1991 after a prolonged illness. Charles continued to travel to places such as Mississippi River gambling boats and Branson, Missouri shows with his friends. He regularly traveled to Red Bluff to visit his son Charles, Charles' wife Linda and his grandchildren Alicia and Jenny. Charles died on January 8, 1998. We all owe him sincere gratitude for his selfless service to his country. He is greatly missed and will never be forgotten by his family.
