    Chester Berry McLaughlin was born in Sac City, Iowa in 1910. His parents moved to Lyman County when he was six years old. From Lyman County they moved to Draper, where his lived until his marriage to Lula Smith of Vivian. Their home was in Vivian where he operated a Standard Oil Station and later a hardware store. He was on the Vivian Independent School Board for 17 years and was president for eight years. In 1955 they moved to Pierre where he operated Chet's Standard for nine years. They moved back to Vivian and ran a Drive Inn Cafe from 1965 to 1969. He suffered a heart attack and they returned to Pierre. During his last stay in Pierre he worked for Peavy Lumber Yard full time for four years and part time until his health began to fail. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Pierre. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Lula, daughter Beverly Griffith, son Willis, two sisters, Lucille Blocker, Arlene Volmer, three brothers, Earl, Clayton and LaVerne. He was preceded in death by his son Rex Arnold.
