    She was my mother. Born in Severna Park, Md. Died in 2004 not 2003. Born as Clara Mae Pettigrew. Married Charles Gwynn. Had twin boys Alfred P and Alvin J Gwynn. Later married Arthur B Spriggs. Had Arthur Jr, Ava B and Annette B Spriggs. Later married Allen W Stevens. No children. Had 5 brothers, Willian, Everette, Robert, James, & George Pettigrew. Had 2 sisters, Florida Naomi Pettigrew & Dr Virginia Redd. 1 adopted sister Rebecca Skipper. Father was William Allen Pettigrew of New Jersey and Mother was St. Clara Mae.Johnson Pettigrew of Virginia. Step mother Salle Pettigrew. She retired from Westinghouse in Md. A loving dedicated mother. A born again baptized believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Had 8 grand children and 15 great grands. Passed away from complications of Alzheimers. Had a blessed life.

In 1923, in the year that Clara P Stevens was born, on November 8th and 9th, Adolf Hitler and his followers (the early Nazi party) staged the "Beer Hall Putsch" in Munich in an attempt to take over Bavaria (a state in Germany). They failed. Hitler was charged with treason and convicted, receiving a sentence of 5 years. He served under 1 year in jail.

In 1937, she was just 14 years old when on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.
