Twelvetrees Jumps From Sixth Floor Hotel Window After Dinner Party
The police were mystified today over the action of Clark Twelvetrees, 22, an actor, living with his wife's family at 3614 Avenue I, who leaped from a sixth floor window of the Hotel Royalton, 44 W. 44th St., Manhattan, shortly after 8 o'clock last night while his wife and a friend were looking on.
No explanation could be obtained today from Mrs. Twelvetrees, now a professional dancer and once a student of Brooklyn Heights Seminary, who was at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Jurgen. Her mother said Mrs. Twelvetrees could not be disturbed and declined to clear up the mystery herself.
Twelvetrees in Hospital.
Twelvetrees was in Bellevenue Hospital, where it was said his condition was improved, although there was fear that he had permanently injured his spine when he struck the running board of a parked motorcar.
The Twelvetrees had been dinner guests of D. J. Healy, a friend, at the hotel and had gone to his apartment afterward. According to information reaching the police, the young actor had expressed despondency over his inability to obtain an engagement and had suddenly leaped from his chair, dashed to the window and leaped out.
Picked Self Up.
Mrs. Twelvetrees and Mr. Healy hurried to the street, where they found that Twelvetrees had managed to pick himself up; but when he saw his wife he collapsed in her arms. A large crowd gathered, police came on the run and an ambulance was summoned.
Wife Offers Blood.
A blood transfusion was decided upon at the hospital and Mrs. Twelvetrees offered her blood, but an examination revealed that it would not match and a professional donor was called.
The Twelvetrees have been married since last January.
