    D. FAYE DAVIS MASON CITY - D. Faye Davis, 72, of 777 S. Eisenhower Ave., died Saturday (Dec. 30, 2000) at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday. The planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the D. Faye Davis Memorial Fund. D. Faye was born Jan. 4, 1928, the daughter of BoGard and Verma (McGee) Vinning in Brilliant, Ala. She graduated from Jennings High School in Jennings, Ala. Her ambition for learning later led her to achieve her master's degree. Faye led a passionate life to its fullest potential. She loved to work on puzzles, play bingo and work in her magnificent garden, which produced the best tomatoes. She loved to read and write poetry. Some of her poems she composed were published in the Library of Congress. Faye enjoyed going to garage sales in search of the ultimate collectable to add to her antique and doll collections. When Faye was younger, she loved training and breeding horses, this love for animals had carried through her entire life and of recent with her cat named Kik. Faye spent hours working on her computer emailing her friends and family. And with all her activities and enjoyments she was always ready to go to the movies and spend time with her family. Those thankful for having shared in Faye's life include her son, Charles B. Kear, III, and his wife, Joy, of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Patricia D. Kear, of Mason City, Maureen J. Cheal and her husband, Richard, of Reading, England, and Melody L. Lawler and her husband, Robert, of Arvada, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, Samantha, Michael, Deborah, John, Travis, Amy, Kristen, Jeremiah, Amber, Adam, Michael E., Stephen, Laura, Craig, and Adam C.; 14 great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Sally Jo Ezell; and many close friends and neighbors. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her mother, Verma Butler; two grandsons, Charles Emarine, and David R. Eachon; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Anderson.

Although they were in two previous shorts, this was the first to be distributed. Steamboat Willie took advantage of the new technology and was a "talkie" - music was coordinated with the animation. The U.S. Army accused Roy Cohn (chief counsel to Senator McCarthy and later trusted mentor of Donald Trump) of blackmail. McCarthy and Cohn accused the U.S. Army of harboring communists. The Army allegations were found to be true. The U.S. Senate later censured McCarthy.
