  • Introduction

    David Quentin Loepp was born to David August Ferdinand (1890-1950) and Matilda Ann (Neubauer) Loepp (1898-1950) in Sioux City Iowa and had two sisters Marie Theresa (1929-2019) and Virginia Claire (born 1932), and a brother Robert Thomas Loepp (1935-2018). He married twice, and with Angeline Sechovec (1929-2012) whom he married on December 9th 1950 in Lincoln Lancaster Nebraska he had two daughters and three sons. He served in the United States Navy during World War 2 and enlisted on April 17th 1945 and was discharged on June 4th 1947. See Son of Ex-Mayor Here Joins Navy. David worked in oil exploration for major oil companies across the United States and into South America.

He traveled extensively for oil exploration including Nebraska, Wyoming, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Texas, the Gulf of Mexico, Paraguay and the Amazon Basin. He passed away in Houston Harris County Texas where he lived from since the late 1960s.

He was a geophysical interpreter for the Carter Oil Company (Esso) and a consulting geologist and geophysicist. He was also party chief in oil exploration in the Amazon Basin for Petroles Brasileiro, did exploration work in South America, and conducted a water survey in Paraguay sponsored by the United Nations.

    The following appeared in the Casper Star-Tribune in Casper Wyoming on Thursday November 26th 1981: David Quentin Loepp CASPER - Funeral services for former Casper resident David Quentin Loepp, 54, were held Nov. 13 in Houston, Texas. Mr. Loepp, an exploration consultant with Phillips Petroleum, died of cardiac arrest on Nov. 5 at his home in Houston. A native of Sioux City, Iowa, Mr. Loepp was a graduate of Central High School there. After serving in the Navy during World War II, he received his BSC Degree in geology from the University of Nebraska and did graduate studies in geology and geophysics at the University of Tulsa. Mr. Leopp was engaged in oil exploration for major oil companies in Nebraska, Wyoming, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Texas and the Gulf of Mexico. He lived in Casper from 1955 to 1964, where he was a geophysical interpreter for the Carter Oil Company (Esso) and a consulting geologist and geophysicist. From 1963 to 1965, he was party chief in oil exploration in the Amazon Basin for Petroles Brasileiro. Recently, he also did exploration work in South America and conducted a water survey in Paraguay sponsored by the United Nations. He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Exploration, Geophysicists Association of Petroleum Consultants, Houston Geological Society and Sigma Gamma Epsilon, national honorary and professional geological fraternity. Survivors include two daughters, Victora Teresa of bellingham, Wash. and Elizabeth Greta of Casper; three sons, David Richard of Taormina, Sicily, Italy; Joseph Thomas of Casper and Thomas Robert of New York City; his mother, Matilda A. Loepp of Fairfax, Va; two sisters, Marie T. Hasson of Arlington, Va. and Virginia Hodkins of Fairfax; a brother, Robert T. of Omaha, Neb.; and two grandchildren, Joseph Jr. and Brandt. Burial was in Houston.

Son of Ex-Mayor Here Joins Navy
The following appeared in the Sioux City Journal in Sioux City Iowa on Thursday March 1st 1945:

David O. (sic) Loepp, son of Maj. and Mrs. David F. Loepp, 4501 Country Club boulevard, is home on inactive duty awaiting call after enlisting in the navy at the navy recruiting station here. The recruit's father is a former mayor of Sioux City who joined the armed forces and was stationed in Italy for some time. He is an allied military government officer, and now is teaching a theory of government of occupied countries at Northwestern university, Evanston, Ill.

Maj. Loepp signed the necessary consent papers for his son to join the navy when he was home on leave recently. The young seaman is a graduate of Central high school and attended Morningside college for one semester.

8 Sioux Cityans Among Group of 14 to Enlist in Navy
The following appeared in the Sioux City Journal newspaper in Sioux City Iowa on Saturday March 3rd 1945:

Eight Sioux City men were among a group of 14 from this area who enlisted in the navy this week, Chief Specialist Recruiter Ray C. Sawvell announced. The enlistees are: Howard E.
