Doris Elaine (Davis) Mashburn of Lester Road, in Lester, Limestone County, Alabama US was born on October 30, 1937 to Edgar Davis and Lillian Fain Davis. She had siblings Jc Davis, Jalena Davis Holmes, Billy Davis, Bobby Davis, Janette Davis Mankins, Harold Davis, and Robbie Nell Davis Swanner. She married James E Mashburn, and had children Randall Everett Mashburn, Kevin Earl Mashburn, Tamala Elaine Mashburn, and Darrin Edgar Mashburn. Doris Mashburn died at age 68 years old on October 12, 2006 at Saint Thomas West Hospital 4220 Harding Rd, in Nashville, TN, and was buried on October 15, 2006 at Hester Cemetary in Lester, Alabama US.

In 1937, in the year that Doris Elaine Davis Mashburn was born, on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.

In 1943, she was only 6 years old when on June 20th through June 22nd, the Detroit Race Riot erupted at Belle Isle Park. The rioting spread throughout the city (made worse by false rumors of attacks on blacks and whites) and resulted in the deployment of 6,000 Federal troops. 34 people were killed, (25 of them black) - mostly by white police or National Guardsmen, 433 were wounded (75 percent of them black) and an estimated $2 million of property was destroyed. The same summer, there were riots in Beaumont, Texas and Harlem, New York.
