Edith Van Santvoord 1886 - 1964

Edith Van Santvoord of Bennington, Bennington County, Vermont United States was born on January 26, 1886 at Troy, N.Y. to Seymour Van Santvoord and Virginia Shields. She married Donald Argyll Campbell on April 21, 1917, and they were married until Donald's death on April 18, 1953. She had children Donald Argyll Campbell Jr. and Jean Virginia Campbell. Edith Santvoord died at age 78 years old on October 27, 1964 at Bennington, Vt., and was buried in 1964 at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

  • Introduction

    Via an ancestral connection to Richard Warren, the Pilgrim who came on the MAYFLOWER in 1620, Edith was a distant cousin of this writer's other grandmother, born Margaret Scott Pitt who wed Richard Bryan Leake Jr. She wed on April 21,1917 in Troy, N.Y. to Donald Argyll Campbell and had 4 children. They took over ownership of the family mansion on the Furnace Grove property east of Bennington, Vt. called Thirteen Gables in the mid 1920s ( It was built for her father's large family. ) and did a fabulous job as housekeepers with just half the family size that her father had. She served as a Grey Lady nurse at Putnam Memorial Hospital ( now Southwestern Vermont Medical Center ) in Bennington, Vt.
