She married Gilbert "Bert" Edward Searle, and had children Robert Edward Searle and Marian Searle. Effie Searle died at age 28 years old on September 23, 1921 at Melbourne Hospital 300 Grattan St, in Parkville, Melbourne City County, and was buried at Brighton Cemetery in Caulfield South, Glen Eira City County.

SEARLE.- On the 23rd September, 1921, at the Melbourne Hospital, of double pneumonia and pleurisy, Effie, the dearly beloved wife of Bert Searle, of No. 22 Male street, Middle Brighton, and loving mother of Bobbie and little baby Marion, third eldest loved daughter of William and Rose Saunders, of Wedderburn; sister of Mrs. A. Kirk, Mrs. W. Wooding, Mrs. J. Douglas, Thomas, William, Frederick and Alfred Saunders, daughter-in-law of Emily and the late Henry Searle, of No. 25 Palermo street, South Yarra, and sister-in- law of Arthur, Winnie, Ivy, and Olive, loved by all who knew her, aged 29 years.

Lizzie was accused of the crime and on June 20th of the next year, she was acquitted of murder by a jury. But she was never acquitted in the public mind.

In 1907, she was only 15 years old when in October, over a 3 week period, the New York stock exchange fell almost 50% from the previous year's high mark. Public panic ensued and there were runs on banks since the U.S. was in the middle of a recession. J.P. Morgan offered his own fortune to back the banks and he was followed by other financiers.
