She was married to James Coughlan, and had children John Patrick Coughlan, Alexander Gordon Coughlan, Mary Eliza (Coughlan) Taylor, James Francis Coughlan, Margaret Aileen (Coughlan) Heley, Vera Morrison (Coughlan) Farmer, Edward Stanley Coughlan, William Kiely Coughlan, Ena Gladys (Coughlan) Meldrum, and Noel Owen Coughlan. Eleanor Coughlan died at age 83 years old on July 31, 1946 in Caulfield, and was buried at Burwood Cemetery Gilmour St, in Burwood, Whitehorse City County.

    The Border Morning Mail. Albury N.S.W. 6th August 1946. A PIONEER PASSES TO THE "GREAT BEYOND" The death occurred at Caulfield, Melbourne, on July 31, of Mrs. Eleanor ( Nellie ) Coughlan, aged 84 years, relict of Mr. James Coughlin, who died in 1940. Mrs. Coughlan came to Walwa 72 years ago from her native town of Beechworth, with her late parents Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Dunn, who were among the early pioneers of the district. After her marriage she lived at Walwa for many years, her husband being a well-known road and bridge contractor throughout the Upper Murray. For several years they conducted the Koetong Hotel, and returned to Walwa, where they remained until retiring to Caulfield. For many years Mrs. Coughlan carried on as a "real bush nurse" for charitys sake, until the establishment of the local Bush Nursing Centre. She is survived by five sons, Jack, Alexander, Noel ( all of Melbourne ), Jim ( Warragul ), and Ted ( Bendigo ), and six daughter's Mary ( Mrs. W. Taylor, Melbourne ), Nona ( Mrs. Taylor), and Vera ( Mrs. Farmer) both of Perth, Ella ( Mrs. Carlon, Lilydale ), Margaret ( Mrs. R. Heley, Melbourne ), Ena ( Mrs. Meldrum, Caulfield ), with whom she lived. A son, Kiely, a brother, Mr. Archie Dunn, and a sister, Mrs. Frank Hunt, predeceased her, and one sister, Mrs. J. E. Johnson ( Walwa ), survives. There are 38 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Burial took place in the Catholic portion of the Burwood Cemetery, beside her late husband.
