Elizabeth daughter of John Cray and Frances Haylock. Her siblings were Fanny born 1813, Philip born 1815, Sarah born 1817, Marianne born 1822, John born @ 1824, Elizabeth born @ 1825, Martha born @ 1827 and Charlotte born @ 1829, Sussannah born 1832 in Soham. Elizabeth, Martha and Charlotte were baptised all on the same day on 28 November 1829. John was a Shoemaker in Soham.
Elizabeth became a domestic servant, working in Swaffham Prior when she married John Gilby the Banns for their marriage were read on the 3rd, 10th and 17th December. Their marriage took place on the 25 December 1843 in St. Mary's Parish Church, Swaffham Prior, Cambridgeshire.
She and John were living in Reach, Camb when she gave birth to Maryanne in 1844, sadly losing her in 1846. They named two other babies Mary Ann, sadly the girls never made it to adulthood.
After the death of her husband, Elizabeth added Mary to her name and lived with her youngest daughter and her family in Bracknell. Elizabeth died in 1903 in Bracknell. Then Ada, her husband and children immigrated to Australia.
