i have a different birth date and mothers name, for my great grandmother, i have a copy of the birth certificate birthday is 27th jan 1887, her mothers name is Maria Annie Turner Nee. (Avery) are you able to confirm your data ? yet her death notice that i have a copy of. states she died 2-7-1962, also that the mothers name was Annie maria Turner, mackie, Woodman. it seems that Elsies Mother may of been married a few times or went by other names. hope you can fill some gaps. kind regards Lisa

Elsie was born on January 27, 1887 in Norwood, SA Australia. She is the child of Annie Maria (Mackie) Turner and Francis Turner. In 1887, in the year that Elsie May (Turner) Power was born, on July 1st, the assembly for the supports of the Eiffel Tower began . A wrought iron lattice tower, it was designed and built by Gustave Eiffel - who also contributed to the building of the Statue of Liberty. There are 18,000 pieces in the Eiffel Tower - which had to be built separately and then assembled in place - with rivets - to complete the Tower.

In 1923, at the age of 36 years old, Elsie was alive when on November 8th and 9th, Adolf Hitler and his followers (the early Nazi party) staged the "Beer Hall Putsch" in Munich in an attempt to take over Bavaria (a state in Germany). They failed. Hitler was charged with treason and convicted, receiving a sentence of 5 years. He served under 1 year in jail.

In 1932, Elsie was 45 years old when five years to the day after Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic, Amelia Earhart flew solo from Newfoundland to Ireland, the first woman to cross the Atlantic solo and the first to replicate Lindbergh's feat. She flew over 2,000 miles in just under 15 hours.

In 1953, she was 66 years old when on July 27th, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed. The Armistice was to last until "a final peaceful settlement is achieved". No peaceful settlement has ever been agreed upon.

In 1962, in the year of Elsie May (Turner) Power's passing, on October 1st, African-American James H. Meredith, escorted by federal marshals, registered at the University of Mississippi - becoming the first African-American student admitted to the segregated college. He had been inspired by President Kennedy's inaugural address to apply for admission.
