Childress and Martha Eliza Bell, and had siblings Albert Wylie Childress Sr, Ella Bell Childress, Martha Willie Childress, Walter Hamilton Childress Sr, Mecca Irene Childress, Arthur Miles Childress, and Thomas Warren Childress. She married A. J. Cloud Sr, and died at age 82 years old on January 2, 1962 in Atlanta, Fulton County, GA. Emma Childress was buried at Fairburn City Cemetery in Fairburn.

Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires".
