    Victoria Advocate Obituary Emmitt "Slim" Oliver, 76, of Edna, died in a Victoria Hospital Tuesday evening following a long illness. Born in Grimes County, he had been a resident of Jackson County for 30 years. Mr. Oliver was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver and blacksmith. A wake was held Thursday evening at the Lockwood Funeral Home in Houston. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna with the Rev. Asa W. Sampson, Sr. of Hopewell Baptist Church of Houston officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 until 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow at the Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Richards, TX. He is survived by his wife, Addie Oliver of Edna; two sons, Emory Oliver and Johnny Oliver, both of Houston; two daughters, Arzoie Jenkins of Dallas, and Merthia Glaze of Huntsville; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
