A Loving Mother and Dedicated Teacher Evelyn E. Gordon-Powell made her transition at the age of 71 on Saturday, December 19, 2009. Evelyn was born on June 20th, 1938 in Mandeville, Manchester Parish Jamaica West Indies. She immigrated to the United States and graduated from Morris High School in the Bronx, NY in 1957. Evelyn served in the United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of A1C. She was a Registered Nurse and earned her Bachelors Degree from Lehman College. Evelyn worked at the Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital spinal cord injury ward for 10 years and she was a Nursing teacher with the Board of Education of the City of New York for 12 years. She was the founder of Little Fingers Music School where she taught piano and music theory in her home. She was a founding member of the North Bronx 7th Day Adventist Church and The Victory 7th Day Adventist Church in Bronx, NY., respectively. After retiring from the Board of Education in 1998 Evelyn made Ocala her home. There she became a member of the Silver Spring Shores 7th Day Adventist Church and also The Marion Oaks 7th Day Adventist Church. She also was the choir leader for five years at the Lady Lake United Methodist Church and continued to teach piano and music theory to children in her home. Evelyn is survived by Two Sons; Richard Gordon, Bronx, NY and Robert Gordon, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and a host of family, friends and students. Her funeral service was held at 1:00PM on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Lady Lake United Methodist Church 109 West McClendon Street Lady Lake, FL, 32159, and her burial was held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 28, 2009 at The Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.33513.
