Evelyn Lenore JOHNSON
I have in my possession an old photograph identified as that of Evelyn Lenore JOHNSON which was taken on 3 Jul 1909 and indicates that Evelyn was born 14 Aug 1908. The photograph doesn't include a photographer’s name or location. Based on limited researching I was able to gather the following information regarding Evelyn and her family:
Evelyn Lenore JOHNSON was b. 14 Aug 1908 in Portland, ND to Jordarhl or Jordal Emil JOHNSON (1883-1955) and Olga Gemine or Gemina KOPPANG (1881-1975). Evelyn was one of three children born to this couple including brothers Vernon Llewellyn JOHNSON (1911-1958) and Duane Bernell or Berraice or Burnell JOHNSON (1919-1988). Evelyn graduated from high school in Thompson, ND and then from the Mayville, ND State College where she got a teaching degree and then taught in Emerado, ND. Evelyn married Hans SYLVESTER on 3 Aug 1929, and they had three children, two sons including Christopher Urdal or Urdahl SYLVESTER (1929-2000) and a daughter, and they farmed in Thompson, ND until Hans died in 1936 and they moved to Hatton, ND.
Evelyn taught in Jamestown, ND from 1944 to 1963 and then she married William SPOTTS and they moved to Moorhead, MN and they had two children, a daughter, and a son. Evelyn died 23 Sept 2003 in Moorhead, MN or 1 Jul 2006 in Fargo, ND and she is buried at the Saint John’s Cemetery in Hatton, ND. She was survived by a daughter Jean STENEHJEM of Edina, MN, a son Bill SPOTTS of Bismarck, ND, and a daughter in law Betty SYLVESTER, of McLean, VA.
Her daughter Jean and her husband George STENEHJEM had a son John Christopher STENEHJEM who died 1 May 2022. He was born to Jean and George on 11 Sept 1964 in Fort Rucker, AL and he moved to Edina, MN in 1975. John then lived in Portland, OR where he died. His parents were living in St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN in recent years.
