  • Introduction

Married 1838 Long Ashton, Somerset. The South Australia Register. Adelaide. 22nd September 1863. OVERSEER OF WORKS. The election of a person to fill the above office, for which offers had been received at the last meeting, was proceeded with. There were seven applicants, and after the names had been several times put to the vote, the majority of the members present held up three hands in favour of Felix Jones, who was declared duly elected. The South Australian Register. Adelaide. 5th June 1876. SUDDEN DEATH. - Mr. Felix Jones, an old colonist, was found dead about 10 o'clock on Saturday morning, June 3, in a closet attached to his house, Abbott's-lane, North Adelaide. The deceased who was 67 years of age, was a native of Bristol, and came to this colony about 20 years ago with his family. He enjoyed good health from his arrival up to the time of his death. He was for many years Overseer of Works for the Adelaide Corporation, and lived by himself since the death of his wife. The body was discovered by a postman named John Cowhan, who stated that he called at deceased house to deliver some letters, but not finding any one answer his knock after he had remained at the door for some time he looked into the yard, and discovered the deceased in a reclining position. Dr. Wylde examined the body, and gave the opinion that death had resulted from apoplexy. Mr. C. S. Hare, J.P., who made a preliminary enquiry, did not therefore consider an inquest necessary. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon at the North Adelaide Cemetery, the Ven. Archdeacon Dove officiating at the service. The remains of deceased were placed beside those of his late wife, who died four years ago. The South Australian Chronicle and Weekly Mail. 10th June 1876. A man named Felix Jones was found dead in the watercloset, at the rear of his own house, in Abbot's-lane, off Pennington terrace, North Adelaide, on Saturday, June 3. A postman called at the house with letters for delivery, but receiving no reply to his knock entered the premises at the back, and made the discovery that Mr. Jones, who was the sole occupant of the house was dead. He at once communicated with the police, and Mr. C. S. Hare, J.P., went to see the deceased. Dr. Wylde having stated his opinion that the deceased died of apoplexy, Mr. Hare, deemed an inquiry unnecessary, and accordingly gave an order for the burial of the body.
