Frederick Jones Bidmeade 1844 - 1906

Frederick Jones Bidmeade was born in 1844 to Felix Jones and Sarah (Morgan) Jones, and had siblings Matilda (Jones) Kidd, Elizabeth Sarah (Jones) Pegler ) O'Brien, Fanny Jones, and Felix Morgan Jones. He was in a relationship with Mary Ann Carey (Rose) Bidmeade Watson, and had children Felix Rose Bidmeade, Herbert B. Bidmeade, Frederick Gardiner Bidmeade, Graham Rigby Bidmeade, Percival Kingswood Bidmeade, Harold Morgan Bidmeade, and Marion Constance (Bidmeade) Lever. Frederick Bidmeade died at age 61 years old on July 23, 1906 in Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand, and was buried at Linwood Cemetery in Christchurch.

    The South Australian Register. Adelaide. 7th September 1877. ALTERATION OF SURNAME. - BIDMEADE formerly JONES - I, FREDERICK JONES BIDMEADE, of New Glenelg, in the Province of South Australia, printer ( heretofore known or distinguished by the name Frederick Jones ), do hereby give notice that I have assumed and taken the Surname of Bidmeade after and in addition to my original surname of Jones; and that I desire for the future to be called and intend to sign myself FREDERICK JONES BIDMEADE. Dated this fifth day of September, 1877. Family left Adelaide and sailed to Melbourne on the steamer the "South Australian" then to New Zealand on the steamer " Arawata" - October 1877. The Star, Christchurch, New Zealand. 30th May 1895. MAGISTERIAL. MAINTENANCE CASE.- Frederick Jones Bidmeade was charged, on the information of his wife, Mary Ann Carey Bidmeade, with having failed to provide his two children, Harold Bidmeade, aged thirteen years, and Constance Bidmeade, aged ten years, with adequate means of maintenance. The Akaroa Mail and Banks Peninsula Advertiser. 24th July 1906. FOUND DEAD. CHRISTCHURCH, July 23. Early this morning a milkman, who has served Mr. F. J. Bidmeade with milk for sometime, made the startling discovery that his customer was lying dead in his house. Mr. Bidmeade is said to have been a native of South Australia, where he was apprenticed as a compositor on the "Advertiser" for some years, before coming to New Zealand. He worked at the Government Printing office at Blenheim, Wellington and the "Press" and "Lyttelton Times" offices.

    The Press, Christchurch. New Zealand. 24th July 1906. MR. F. J. BIDMEADE. - Mr. Frederick Jones Bidmeade, formerly a compositor and member of the Conciliation Board, who has taken a prominent part in labour matters for some years was found dead in bed yesterday morning. Mr. Bidmeade lived by himself in Exeter street, and was last seen alive on Thursday. For some days it was noticed hat he had not taken in his milk left at the door. Yesterday the house was entered by the police, and he was found dead. There were indications that death must of taken place a three or four days before. Yesterday afternoon an inquest was held by Mr. H. W. Bishop, coroner. Dr. Inglis, who conducted a post-mortem examination, said that death was due to fatty degeneration of the heart.
